Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association recently featured in the West Highland Free Press, highlighting our ambitious plans to help tackle the housing shortage in Portree. The article showcases our commitment to delivering much-needed affordable homes and supporting the long-term sustainability of communities across Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh.
LSHA is continuing its commitment to tackling the shortage of affordable housing across Skye, with ambitious plans that could see almost 300 new homes delivered in and around Portree over the coming years.
Following the purchase of land at Kiltaraglen in late 2025, LSHA is progressing plans to deliver around 100 new homes during the next five years. In the longer term, the wider site has the potential to provide up to 248 homes, including affordable rent, mid-market rent and shared equity housing, helping to meet a range of local housing needs.
Planning work is already underway, with planning permission in principle granted for the first phase and hopes that construction can begin during 2027/28.
Alongside the Kiltaraglen development, LSHA is progressing the purchase of a site at Rockfield, Portree, where a further 34 homes are proposed. The Association is also exploring opportunities to deliver affordable housing at Home Farm, where plans for 66 homes have already received planning in principle, with at least 25% expected to be affordable if the development proceeds.
These exciting developments build on LSHA's recent achievements, including the completion of six new affordable homes at Raasay Park Cottages and four new homes in Glenelg, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes that help sustain communities across Lochalsh, Skye and Raasay.
Working closely with the Scottish Government, Highland Council and other partners, LSHA remains committed to delivering the affordable homes that local people need, ensuring our communities can continue to thrive for generations to come.
